While vast sections of Northern Colorado wonder how they will recover from recent flooding, Durango Christian Church has found a way to provide at least a little help.
Durango Christian Church will be partnering with Group Cares, a non-profit that works closely with Group Publishing, in a 1-day event to help with the recovery efforts. “The Big Day of Serving” project will take place October 12 in the Colorado cities of Loveland, Longmont, and Greeley. Numerous Church groups will help with clean-up, yard work, painting, and minor home repairs.
Tim Gilmour, president of Group Cares, says it’s critical to respond to the disaster as quickly as possible. “Many of our friends and neighbors haven’t even dried out yet, but they need our help now. We spend most of our time assisting in other areas around the country, so our team is really looking forward to doing some good right here in our own backyard. The Northern Colorado community is strong, it is now our job to create helpful recovery opportunities for this region. ”
Normally, the cost to attend a Big Day of Serving is $29, but for the upcoming Colorado events Group Cares is suggesting a donation of $20 to attend. Lunch will be provided. Lodging is extra.
“The Big Day of Serving” is a series of one-day events across the United States where neighborhoods are transformed by Christian church groups eager to help people in need. They clean city blocks, alleyways and parks; help with landscaping and plant community gardens; remove graffiti; and paint and tackle minor home repairs.
There is need in Colorado and you are truly wanted here. If you are able to help with funding for this event or can come and help personally, please call the church office at 247-1929!
